Wireless Networking Installation: An Overview

Also, each of the points of access requires a 100Mbps or 10Mbs Ethernet connection. This frequency of Ethernet depends on the design of the wireless network. To get the optimum performance, one must separate the access points from the remaining network of the corporate via a virtual LAN or router.

The next step is to identify the location for access points. These locations have a significant impact on the performance of the wireless network. Thus, it must be ensured that a radio frequency site survey is performed before the access points are installed.

This survey would point out the potential sources of the radio frequency interference and supply a basis for determining the locations. These locations should be most effective for the installation.

The third step is to install the distribution system. This would include the Ethernet switches and maybe even the routers that run to every access point. However, one must make sure to label all the cables according to the specifications or methods of the company.

The main idea behind is to identify every end of the cable through a number scheme that would let the user know which access point is being dealt with while connecting the wire to a patch panel and troubleshooting or rewiring the system in the future.
