Wireless Network Windows 98: An OverviewMany computers still run on the Microsoft's older WinMe and Win98 operating systems. Thus, it is essential for users of these systems to install a wireless network Windows 98 version. This would be helpful to set up a wireless home or office network. To install Network Interface Card in any Windows 98 machine a wireless NIC, two computers that run on Windows 98 with a 64 MB memory and a fast processor are required. The first step of the installation is to insert the CD ROM of installation that has accompanied the wireless USB NIC in the PC. The welcome screen would then appear.The user must then click on the Setup tab, then click Next to begin the process of installation. Then after agreeing with the End User License Agreement, the user can proceed with the process of installation. The succeeding screen would show the user the folder wherein all the files can be installed. After clicking on the next tab, the user would be asked whether he would like to install the wireless NIC in the Infrastructure or Ad-hoc mode. The user must click on Infrastructure mode and click Next. The screen would then ask for the Service Set Identifier of the users' wireless network. The user can either choose to write any name or opt for the default name. However, the user must remember to configure the wireless router to match. After clicking on the Next tab, the next screen would review and summarize the selected settings from all the preceding screens. The user must again click Next so as to start copying the files that are required, to the computer. Subsequently the installation of the wireless network Windows 98 is complete. The screen would flash ''Congratulations! Your Wireless USB Networking Adapter has been successfully configured!'' The user must now click Exit. A request screen would then appear asking the user to restart the computer before the user can use the software that is installed. The ''Yes, I want to restart my computer now'' tab must then be chosen, followed by the Finish tab. The PC would then start rebooting. Once the PC has finished with the reboot, the wireless USB NIC must plugged into any of the USB ports available on the PC. The user can even utilize the USB cable that has been provided along with the wireless USB Network Interface Card. Windows would detect the plug in automatically. Then the Windows 98 would begin loading the Network Interface Card's drivers. The message box would then appear saying "A file being copied is older than the file currently on your computer. It is recommended that you keep your existing file. Do you want to keep this file?" would appear on the screen. After the user has clicked on the Yes tab, and all the drivers are loaded for the computer, the wireless network Windows 98 set up is ready to start working! |
