Wireless Network Setup: An Overview

Before you choose your wireless equipment, it is important to opt for the one that is compatible to your system. You can choose from three different technologies of wireless networking: 802.11a, 802.11b and 802.11g. However, the most recommendable wireless networking technology is the 802.11g. It offers superb performance. It is also compatible with almost every system.

After you have chosen your equipment, you must connect your wireless router. The router would convert the signals that come through your Internet connection into a wireless broadcast. To connect the router, you must first locate your DSL or cable modem and turn it off. Then connect your modem to the wireless router.

Make sure your modem is connected directly to the Internet. After you are done with hooking everything up, your computer would connect wireless to your router. The router would then send communications via your modem to the Internet.

The next step for you is to configure your wireless router. You can use the network cables that would come with your wireless router to connect temporarily to any one of the open network ports on your wireless router to your computer. Turning on your computer would immediately connect to your wireless router.

Last but not the least, connect your computer. If your PC does not have a built in wireless support network, you can plug your network adapter to your USB port. Then place the antenna on the top of your computer.

The Windows XP would detect your new adapter automatically. It would then prompt you to insert the adapters' CD. The instructions on screen would guide you through the process of configuration. Once you are done setting up your wireless network, you can easily share files and play games anywhere you want.
